John Legend’s “So Proud” After Chrissy Teigen’s Postpartum Depression Essay

All-around solid dude John Legend has addressed the in-depth essay Chrissy Teigen recently wrote regarding her postpartum depression, saying “I’m so proud of her” for sharing her story.

Speaking to an E! reporter, the singer said he believed his wife’s candid article regarding life after the birth of daughter Luna would help other sufferers by reminding them they aren’t alone in facing the condition.
“She showed me the drafts when she was writing it and I knew it would mean a lot to a lot of women for them to see that.

“By acknowledging the pain that she’s going through, in doing that she also acknowledges the pain that a lot of women go through after they have a child.

“A lot of people don’t want to talk about it. A lot of people feel alone when they’re going through it and for her to let people know that they’re not alone, I think was really powerful.”

Teigen’s piece also mentioned Legend’s support during her most vulnerable moments. She addressed the times “John would sleep on the couch with me, sometimes four nights in a row,” because she physically couldn’t bring herself to the bed.

To that, Legend reminded partners of those going through post-partum depression “you have to be present.

“You have to be compassionate. You have to understand what the reasons for them feeling what they’re feeling are.

“I think once you know the reasons. I think you can be more helpful in identifying what they’re going through.”

That’s not just top-notch advice for their specific circumstances, it’s great relationship advice, full-stop.
