IT’S OFFICIAL: Finland Is Now The 22nd Country To Legalise Same-Sex Marriage

Finland‘s produced some great things over the years. Adorably perfect puppies, outrageous theatrical heavy metal outfits like Lordi, and the absolute greatest way to click over to the new year. It’s generally a pretty good part of the world.

Well here’s another win for the Nordic lords to chalk up. It’s been a couple of years coming but Finnish folks in same-sex relationships can now 100% officially tie the knot.

Yay! Confetti! Release the ceremonial doves! Someone put on the Run DMC remix of ‘Let’s Get Married’ by Jagged Edge, please.
The legislation was voted in back in 2014, but the kick-off date for people to legally get hitched has come. The marriage law reform sees Finland as officially the 22nd country in the world to allow same-sex marriage, and the last country in the Nordic region to allow same-sex couples to have all the rights of a you-beaut, genuine partnership.
The law is an expansion on same-sex union laws that have been in place since 2002 – the new-and-improved legislation now allows same-sex newlyweds to take each others’ last names and also makes the couple able to apply to adopt children.
The LGBTQIA community of Finland has been waiting so long for this legislation to kick in – so much so that UK X Factor and Finnish-native Saara Aalto proposed to her partner the first moment that the reformed laws kicked in.

TBH, as more countries pass marriage equality laws, it’s making Australia look even more behind the ball. How about we hurry the fuck up and do something about that. Just a thought.
