Instagram Is Testing In-App Shopping And Our Wallets Are Already Screaming

Scrolling through Instagram can be a hazardous endeavour when it comes to your wallet. Influencers tend to have a clever way of enticing you into purchasing something you might otherwise ignore.

In an attempt to drain your wallets at an even faster, exceptionally more alarming rate, Instagram is trialling in-app shopping, taking you from image to purchase in just a few taps.
Yep, it’s as terrifying as it sounds, you’re scrolling through your feed when all of a sudden you see an ad featuring something you actually want. You’ve barely stopped laughing at the cracker Brown Cardigan post you just saw, but somehow you’ve ended up with a pair of $300 jeans. How? Why? Where am I?

Trialling the feature with brands like Abercrombie & Fitch, Levi’s, Target and JackThreads, the feature works by giving you the option to view products in a picture. A box will appear above each item, allowing you to tap through to a description page, then through to the item’s website to purchase it, like a seamless, financial nightmare.
Have a geez at how it works in the video below.
“Instagram already is a great place for discovery on mobile,” the company’s blog post said. “While consumer research informed the first step of this test, we expect to learn a lot from the businesses we’re working with in this early test. During this initial phase, the new features will be available to a group of people on iOS devices within the US.”
The feature will be rolled out globally at some point, likely after its official launch in the US. Prepare yourselves for bankruptcy.
