Insta Celebs Tell Us How They Got Red Carpet Ready For The ARIAs

Must be hard, getting glammed up for the biggest night in Australian music… No really, I struggle to decide what I wanna wear on a Tuesday when I go to work. How the heck am I supposed to figure out what look to go for at a red carpet occasion?

Long story short, sometimes you gotta look to your phone for inspo, and these folk know a heck of a lot more about getting red carpet ready than I do.

We had a chat to curly-haired Insta star Jayme Jo Massoud, DJ and Presenter Flex Mami, and YouTube gurus Rowi Singh and Cartia Mallan about how they prepped for the big event and all the stuff they did in the lead up to the ARIAs.

How long have you been planning your ARIAs look?

Jayme Jo: I started planning it about a month ago when I came across the perfect vintage dress at the markets!

Rowi: I’d say about a week or so! I love reinventing existing items in my closet.

Cartia: Look I’m slightly ashamed to tell you this but… Yesterday, the day before the ARIA’s, I still didn’t have an outfit sorted. Super, SUPER last minute. Eeekkkk!

What was your routine like this morning?

Flex: Same as every other day. Skip breakfast, answer emails, get sucked into a Twitter vortex, not anticipate how much time I need to get ready, remain in awe of how quickly I can get ready and look amazing. I jump into the shower and lather up opulence, think about shaving but then laziness prevails, towel off and sit in my towel scrolling aimlessly on my phone for FAR too long, think about ordering food and realised I haven’t left enough time, slap on a wig and a gorgeous face of makeup.

Rowi: A lot of skin prep to extract my natural glow, and of course a lot of tedious eyeshadow and contour work!

Cartia: I woke up, did a quick workout, got home and raced around like a crazy woman organising the final pieces of my outfit.

How long did it take you to look this flawless?

Jayme Jo: I’d say about an hour or so… Most of my time was spent on getting the perfect ‘gram.

Flex: Roughly 45 minutes for hair, makeup and look, and another hour or so scrolling through the internet, picking the ‘right’ song to help me get ready and stressing that I’m potentially running late

Rowi: I’d say about an hour and fifteen!

What’s the piéce-de-resistance of your look?

Jayme Jo: The amazing finishing touches for my look are the moselle pendant and matching moselle bracelet from Swarovski. They complement my dress perfectly and are such a statement.

Flex: One would say that my vessel is the piéce-de-resistance but that would be too obvious. It’s not often I go for a dainty or pseudo-elegant look, so it’s been pretty nice to drape myself in fine jewellery for the night. Shout out to Swarovski for keeping me icy!

How did you calm yourself and prepare for the red carpet?

Flex: There’s absolutely nothing to stress about! Reminding myself of that key fact keeps me calm.

Rowi: Playing with my dog whilst doing a face mask always does the trick! Ideally, I’d like to bring my dog to these events.

Cartia: I always smile and remember to have fun! Never take anything too seriously (oh, and maybe one or two champagnes).

Do you have any unusual pre-event rituals?

Jayme Jo: I’d say my usual pre-event ritual is eating a lot of lollies to keep my energy levels up.

Flex: Thinking about food, not leaving enough time to eat food, complaining about being hungry— happens every time!

Rowi: Nothing too unusual or whack, always need to get in at least 50 selfies before I walk out my door!

So there you have it – we gremlins no longer have any excuse not to dress our best next time a big event rolls around. If our Insta faves can get themselves sorted in less than 45 minutes, so can we.

Especially when, as they say in How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days, you have the chance to ‘frost yourself’.
