When I’m getting ready in the morning, I must admit that, shamefully, my first thought isn’t about whether the crinkled clothing that I pluck from my wardrobe (read: overflowing chair) is sustainable. In my half asleep state, I’m more preoccupied with I’m not accidentally inserting my arm into a leg hole, and vice versa.
But I really should be caring about the sustainability of the clothes that I wear. Let’s not kid ourselves here: the world is burning and we’ve gotta do our part, even if it’s as simple as trying to buy stuff that isn’t horrendous for the entire planet.
So it’s refreshing to see brands like H&M step up and produce entirely sustainable lines.
H&M has released a few sustainable collections over the years, but this Spring Collection is 100% sustainably sourced down to the last thread, which makes it a pretty huge deal given how wide-spread the brand is.
Literally every single piece in the collection is made from entirely sustainable fabrics, so you don’t have to worry about what’s going to happen to your clothes when you’re finished hoisting them onto your bod each season.
The styling is really floaty and romantic, so if you decide to partake in this sustainable sartorial sweetness, you’ll be looking great while doing the right thing for the planet.
According to H&M, they’ve reduced their CO2 emissions by 11% with a goal of achieving a climate positive value chain by 2040, plus, in general, 95% of the cotton used within the H&M Group is recycled or sustainably sourced in other ways.
Given the big push for climate action right now, it’s important that brands do make changes in order to align with what the people want. And what the people want, is a sustainable future not only for our threads, but for us too. So this is a strong start.
