Julia Nobis – part-human, part-alabaster foal – fronts a pretty flawless SS13 campaign for Saint Laurent Paris (née YSL) that more than makes up for the lukewarm reception the collection garnered amid the perfect PR shit storm generated by its debut in September.
A fitting companion piece to the label’s menswear campaign (as it’s wont to be), creative director Hedi Slimane hasn’t exactly over-extended his photographic reach – much like he did with the collection – in producing another set of the moody, chiaroscuro images that have become his signature; because if it ain’t broke etc.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing either. Plus, why would you when you have all these smouldering androgynes, chain mail sequins, ruffles, ridiculous pussy bows, those pins, your laurels and the archives of Saint Laurent to rest on?
I’ll never work in this town again, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing at all.
