GUCCI’S SS09 MGMT INSPIRED MENS SHOWING

So Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini dedicated her latest Spring 2009 menswear collection to MGMT…

The collection revolved around the obvious hyper colour psy-trance cloth which the New York indie disco kids; MGMT are renowned for and an eclectic combination of foul-but-cute shades. All the sprawled material which made the get-up-fits and tracksuits possible, did the runway walk to what else but; MGMT’s ‘Time To Pretend’, quite fitting we know… (Pardon the Pun)

However, I always thought it was mega ghey when a fashion label would base it’s collection around the most in vogue band at the time. Especially considering most high-fashion brands, including Gucci, like to associate themselves with longevity and terms such as ‘timeless’ and ‘classic’, so doesn’t basing a collection around a band or artist who is yet to prove they’re either, seem kind of wack?

In saying that though MGMT are probably one of the few fresh new acts around at the moment who could quite possiblty wear the previous tags in years to come…

Are Gucci onto something big or are they just being ghey and trendy?
