Good News, Melb: All Night Weekend Public Transport Is Sticking Around

Good news, Melbourne: all night public transport on weekends is now a permanent reality.

Though the Night Network trial has been chugging along just fine for a little while now, it was due to end on the 30th of June, forcing punters to walk a lonely 3am deathmarch back to their homes, chicken kebab clutched in their first like a war totem. Or cab it, I dunno.
Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan today announced an investment of $193.2 million over the next four years to make Night Network permanent. “The best cities in the world don’t stop when the sun goes down – and neither does Melbourne,” she said. Yeah alright, Melbourne’s decent, I guess.
Public Transport Victoria is currently working through what one could assume is vast backlog of passenger feedback and data to sort out what overnight public transport will look like, for now it’ll keep running as it did during the trial.
