Super famous beautiful person Gigi Hadid has abruptly pulled out of the upcoming Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which will take place in Shanghai on November 20.

The 22-year-old was set to walk in the show for the third time, alongside sister Bella Hadid and other top models including Karlie Kloss, Aussie Victoria Lee and Lais Ribeiro, who is wearing the $2m Fantasy Bra this year.

But today, Gigi took to Twitter to announce that she would no longer be participating in the catwalk show, promoting mucho speculation about why.

While she gives exactly zero explanation as to the reason behind her not being able to “make it”, many commenters believe it is related to backlash over an Instagram video posted on Bella’s account which showed Gigi imitating Buddha by squinting her eyes.

In fact, so many Chinese people boycotted her coming to Shanghai that the model took to the country’s social media site Weibo to issue a formal apology for the vid back in September.

The Daily Mail quotes her as saying:

It hurts me to hurt anyone, and I want you all to know that it was never my intent to offend anyone through my actions and I sincerely apologise to those who were hurt or felt let down by me. I have the utmost respect and love for the people of China and cherish the incredible memories I have made while visiting in the past. I have learned to be very careful of how my actions can come off or be portrayed, and I’m hopeful you’ll accept my apology.

But perhaps her words weren’t enough.

Gigi’s last-minute cancellation comes after reports that several models set to walk in the year’s show were denied Chinese visas and forced to pull out.

According to Fashionista, Russian-born Julia Belyakova, Kate Grigorieva and Irina Sharipova as well as Dasha Khlystun from Ukraine all had their visa applications shut down earlier this week.
