Former Sydney Kings Player Charged With Vandalising Lindt Cafe, Denied Bail

The man who allegedly vandalised Martin Place‘s Lindt Cafe has appeared in court.
Police allege that a former Sydney Kings player, Luke Martin, threw rocks at the cafe, then was spotted soon after driving recklessly around the city. Police also allege that he assaulted police after they pursued him to Darlinghurst, with one officer suffering a broken jaw from the altercation.
He appeared in Sydney Central Local Court and was charged with a multiple offences – malicious damage, dangerous driving, causing a police pursuit, assaulting police (resulting in actual bodily harm), and resisting arrest. According to the ABC, Martin’s shirt was ‘ripped across his chest’ during his court appearance.
The magistrate ruled that, despite not having a criminal record, Martin’s behaviour shows that he is an unacceptable risk to the community, and so denied him bail. He’ll face court again in June.
