Fkn Hectic Storms Have Knocked Out Power For The Whole Of South Australia

If you’re reading this in South Australia right now, we can absolutely guarantee it’s because you’re on your smartphone or tablet. Because your modems and non-laptop computers are as good as useless for the time being.

A pair of absolutely hectic severe storm systems has dumped shedloads of rain across the Adelaide and Adelaide Hills regions, with widespread win, rain, thunder, and lightning not only knocking out the power for city, but the power for the entire state.
That’s the whole state of South Australia. All of it. No power anywhere.
Sources on Twitter confirmed the entire state has been plunged into darkness by the pair of storms systems that have been battering the region since around midday.

The storm cells are the result of a very nasty complex spring low pressure system currently going ballistic over the Great Australian Bight.

And god damn, the radar images of the two storms look gnarly as hell.
The first one, which passed over the region from around midday onwards, looked like it might actually consume the city whole.

Meanwhile the second one, which is still working its way over the top of the Adelaide CBD, looks similarly nasty.

Those reds and blacks. They’re no good.

Workers who could made a mad dash for home in the brief respite between the two systems, with remaining workers now stuck in the office. In some cases, quite literally.

The blackout has also knocked out all the traffic lights across the city, turning the road and bus networks to utter chaos. Those trying to flee the city in an Uber, for example, are currently having to pay through the teeth for the privilege.

The system is headed east towards Victoria, but it’s expected that storm activity will cease after it crosses Adelaide. There is more rain on the way for the region tomorrow, increasing the risk of flash flooding, but the weather is forecast to take a massive upswing to pleasantville over the weekend.
It’s not all doom and gloom, however. Despite the ridiculousness, people have still managed to maintain a good sense of humour about themselves.

I mean, no Power in September? There’s gotta be someone to blame for that.

Stay safe and dry, SA buds. <3
