Extremely Loose Tassie Bloke Mooned Cops & Invited Them To “Check Up There”

Blessed, sweet, glorious Tasmania. God’s own country. The best state in the nation. My island home.
Anyone who grew up in Tassie will tell you the same tale: There’s not a real lot to do down there when you’re young and adventurous, but that just means you’ve gotta conjure up your own fun. And over the years, young Tasmanians have developed quite the creative streak.
Exhibit A: A 27-year-old bloke has been found guilty of drink driving, prohibited behaviour and using abusive language to police, because when Tasmania Police tried to intercept him and put him on the breatho, he got out of his van and mooned them.
The yarn goes that back in October of last year, police stopped the van at around 2:15am in the morning near Hobart‘s waterfront. When the driver of the van’s dog started barking at police. As he was walking towards them, the attending police asked if he had anything in his pockets.
Old mate’s response? He dropped his dacks, turned around, poked his arse out at cops and stated “Check up there.”
Check. Up. There.
In utterly shocking news, he then blew 0.137.
A Hobart magistrate then, would you even believe it, refused to accept the man’s defence that he believed he was about to be strip-searched, calling the excuse “far-fetched,” and “fanciful.”

“I don’t accept that you thought you were being strip-searched. [You] were just making the police work more difficult when they were lawfully apprehending you.”

The bloke’s lawyer then attempted to reason that his behaviour was on the lower end of the prohibited behaviour scale.

“It’s perhaps not the worse thing that happened that night in that street.”

2:15am on the Hobart waterfront? Yeah that’s fair enough. I once saw a bloke do a shoey of his own piss at roughly that same time and location. Tassie.

The 27-year-old was disqualified from driving for eight months and fined a total of $940.
His arse, which remained in his pants for the duration of the hearing, escaped charge.
