For a long time there, bridal headpieces were pretty straight. It seemed like everything was made out of the same few materials (pearls, diamantes, and silver), and all you could get was a legit princess tiara or a headband. It was all so damn pretty – and that’s great if your personal bridal style is of that nature. But what if you’re just not into traditional?
We’ve got good news for you friends. Loads of designers are getting mega creative with headpieces these days, and it means you’ll be able to find something that really, genuinely reflects your own taste. Ranging from the subtle, to the downright show-stopping, there are some really cool things being done in the hair accessory space and we are 100% here for it. We decided to round up our current faves for max wedding inspiration.
You absolutely, completely cannot do a story on bridal head pieces and not mention Viktoria Novak. Arguably the queen of crowns and fancy hair adornments, the famed milliner has only been doing her thing since 2006, but has a long list of fab Aussie celeb clientele – plus she exclusively designed pieces for hit period drama Reign. Think royalty vibes with a bit of an edge.
Inspired by natural elements, designer Daniella van den Huijssen wires and solders her pieces by hand, using precious stones and gold/silver plated materials. Items are limited run, meaning you’re unlikely to see your piece on the next bride.
Phenomenal creative stylist Dani Buchart does some pretty damn fantastic things with greenery. Although her main game is all-round styling and floristry, she on occasion makes absolutely magnificent flower crowns – but not the kind you’ve been across since 2012. These are something else – and totally perfect for the modern bride.
Vintage and bohemian romance are the vibes at Bride La Boheme, a company originally founded in 2013 after the head designer and founder wanted something unique for her own wedding. The pieces range from traditional through to hyper-modern, so there’s really something for everyone.
Brooklyn based Jennifer started her business in 2005, and you’ve definitely seen her stuff on celebs because they love her for red carpet hair. Her design background is in sculpture and art history, which is probably why her pieces have such beautiful, intricate detailing.
You’ve definitely come across Crowns and Wreaths’ amazing, mermaid-esque crystal headbands during your mad Pinterest pinning sessions – but did you know they also do equally stunning clips? If your hairstyle is intricate to the point where a crown would be a bit OTT, try a pin instead, like this moon and crystal version.
You’ve probably seen Lisa Xu‘s unique head pieces on some pretty well known heads – Georgia Love of Bachelorette fame is a massive fan, and has worn her designs right through racing season. Lisa’s pieces range from eye-catching geometric masterpieces right through to intricate traditional clips and crowns. She’s collaborated recently with JY Jewels, using their amazing gems in these dramatic star crowns and head bands.
Milliner Reny Kestel is as creative as they come – but it’s her veil headpieces that really bring the bridal drama – in a good way. They’re feminine but also seriously chic, taking old school tradition and 2017-ing it up with crystal details and modern shapes.
