If there’s one group of people who can pick the fashion pieces that’ll take off next season, it’s the fashion buyers. Forget influencers and (gasp) fashion editors (lol don’t forget us pls, we know things too) – buyers are responsible for companies throwing down big cash on collections and key pieces, so their eyes are trained to spot what’s going to fly off the shelves and what’s just not.
We asked David Jones Buying Manager for Womenswear, Teneille Oakley, for the pieces she spotted on the MBFWA runways that she thinks will dominate next season.
CAMILLA AND MARC
“Dark based floral prints sell well at David Jones. This dress allows for easy summer dressing for day or night – wear with sandals or slides for a chic daytime look or dress up with a heel, leather jacket and statement earring for a bolder look.”
“A new take on the traditional blazer. This season has been all about the power suit and as we move into resort, we will start to see different takes on the blazer, with sleeve details, prints and textured fabrications. Wear with matching pants or alone as a statement jacket – the epitome of luxe tailoring but still very feminine.”
LEE MATHEWS
“This was my favourite dress of the week! The perfect summer dress, so romantic and whimsical. This is sure to be a summer favourite.”
“Fresh Resort tailoring. Lightweight and relaxed but very chic.”
HANSEN & GRETEL
“Love the neckline and sleeve detail of this dress. It is a simple piece with added interest which makes is quite special.”
C/MEO COLLECTIVE
“Anything in marigold yellow. This colour is going to be huge for resort wear this year, a refreshing colour change for the new season, while being suitable for day to night.”
