Central Saint Martins Graduate Collections

Formed in 1989 after the merger of The Central School of Art and Design (founded in 1896) and Saint Martins School of Art (founded in 1854), London’s iconic Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design is regarded by many as the premiere fashion institution in the world.

And rightly so – just look at their alumni, a veritable who’s who of fashion industry icons that includes Stella McCartney, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane, Hussein Chalayan, Hamish Bowles, Paul Smith, Giles Deacon, Riccardo Tisci, Luella Bartley and Gareth Pugh. Australians Kym Ellery and Daniel Askill both graduated there too. As did musicians M.I.A., Tom Vek, Jarvis Cocker, Paul Simonon, Joe Strummer and PJ Harvey. And don’t forget actors Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Paul Bettany.

In short it’s a multidisciplinary hub that perennially spawns talent worth keeping an eye on, which is why we’re spotlighting the collections of Central St. Martins’ most recent graduating class. As reported by Fashionista all 125 graduates debuted their collections last week with 40 students then chosen to show at the official Central St. Martins press showing (attended by the likes of Vogue UK) later this week. Below you’ll find snapshots from some of the 80 students who didn’t make the cut for the press show. Yes, I repeat, didn’t make the cut. Judging from the caliber of the rejected designs, the top 40 should definitely yield a few future Gareth Pughs or Hussein Chalayans.

Maybe it’s time for a trip to The UK?
