It was all-round relief when the boyfriend of Susanna Lau – one of the original ~bloggers~ of fashion, better known as Susie Bubble of Style Bubble – was found safely after his sudden disappearance last week, prompting a frantic social media campaign to track him down.
The heavily pregnant style star last saw partner of 10 years Steve Salter at 10am on a Monday morning when he left their London home for work at i_D magazine, where he’s digital editor, and wrote on Instagram that he was “in completely normal state of mind when we last spoke yesterday morning.”
After updating the original post hours later to say he’d been found in a hospital emergency room, it was radio silence until she took to IG again to give her worried followers more of an insight into what happened – and indirectly state that mental illness was a factor.
“Without going into details, what Steve went through was beyond traumatic. And I did very nearly lose him,” she wrote. “My world as a result feels like it’s been tipped over. What I thought I knew, maybe I didn’t know at all.”
Bubble also hinted that the traumatic experience, and whatever Salter’s going through, could shake up her entire approach to sharing her life on social.
“Time will tell whether things just go back to “normal” – whatever that means. Exciting fashions, Insta-worthy holiday shots and random ramblings won’t be obliterated. But what goes on behind the veneer of all of that can’t be ignored either.”
Salter – who remains in hospital – later posted his own message of thanks to the family, friends and strangers who lent their support throughout his ordeal.
“This week has been a reminder to talk more, listen harder, support anyone who requires help and hold loved ones that bit closer.”
Bubble is due to give birth to their first bubby together early in the new year.
