Sure, maybe on the fashion runways we need those super-extra-hectic holding ones to keep insane updos in place. And yes, sometimes the mega hold sprays are good for taming flyaways. But in general, are we not all simply trying to achieve that just-rolled-out-of-bed-after-marathon-sex-sesh-but-make-it-cute vibe?

Finding that perfect medium hold hairspray that’ll boost volume and keep your carefully constructed waves and messy bits in place is hard. I’ve tried a LOT of hairsprays for you, and these are the ones I reckon go the distance – without giving that crunchy, sticky finish.

Another one that does a great job of adding airy volume to mid-lengths and ends.
OUAI VOLUMISING HAIRSPRAY
From the Kardashian’s hairstylist Jen Atkin’s brand, this spray works great near the roots and mid-lengths to add proper volume to flat hair.
TRESEMME PERFECTLY (UN)DONE DIVINE DEFINITION SPRAY
This is a great, affordable option if you go through hairspray something fierce.
SAM KNIGHT COOL GIRL BARELY THERE TEXTURE MIST
This one is quite light-on, it’s perfect if you’re worried about making thick hair TOO big – it gets it just right.
TONI & GUY TOUSLED TEXTURE CREATION SPRAY
Another great cheapie – this one is a little more on the texture side than the Tresemme.
ORIBE DRY TEXTURISING SPRAY
This is expensive. It’s also the best goddamn texture spray I’ve ever used – gritty, so you get body and hold. But brushable, so you don’t have crunchy hair the next day.
FUDGE MEMBRANE GAS
Bear with me here – this spray is INTENSE. Use too much and your hair will be sticky as hell, and it can tend toward crunchy. But goddamn, there is nothing better for keeping sexy texture for hours when you go out to party, OK?
R+CO OUTER SPACE HAIRSPRAY
Another great one for holding waves and curls while still allowing movement.
