Alexander Wang To Design Menswear

Much like his trans-Atlantic counterpart Gareth Pugh, New York based designer Alexander Wang has made the transition from designing womenswear to launching an eponymous menswear line slated for a Spring 2010 launch.

Much of Wang’s women’s pieces possess the kind of tomboy androgyny that would have boyfriends pilfering their better half’s wardrobe. Whereas other fashion houses are scaling back in the face of economic doom and gloom, Wang has the luxury of a $200, 000 CDFA/Vogue Fashion Fund award to help him weather the storm. And weather the storm he shall – the announcement of his men’s line comes off the back of his diffusion “T By Alexander Wang” line which we have previously posted.

I’ve always liked the well cut basics that Wang himself wears and I imagine his approach to menswear would carry a similar sensibility to the way he approaches womenswear. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with.
