Alexander Wang Fall 2009

With a front row that boasted it girls (Jen Brill) alongside bonafide A-listers (Sarah Jessica Parker) Alexander Wang’s Spring 2009 Ready To Wear show cemented the young designer’s place amongst the upper reaches of the NYC fashion pantheon.

Wang showed a predominantly black collection of mini dresses, tailored jackets and pants that were highly wearable (not counting fur sleeves that gave the appearance of gorilla arms). Adhering strictly to his sexy but tough aesthetic the dresses were short and sheer and the jackets form fitting and stripped back (with the exception of one croc detailed jacket).

Wang also employed knits (wrapped around the head and neck) and metal detailing to break up the looks which in spite of his past collections leaned to a more conventional ethos. The next Marc Jacobs? Only time will tell…
