If you were tasked with naming the world’s top model, you’d be forgiven for thinking of someone like Kendall Jenner or Bella Hadid. After all, Kendall and the Hadid sisters both landed a spot on Forbes’ Highest Paid Models of 2018 list.
But, it turns out both these gals were beaten out for the coveted title by one of our very own. Adut Akech has been named the World’s Top Model by Models.com Industry Awards, a collective of professionals from across the fashion industry.
According to the website, the award is given to, “The singular face that defined the year as a whole with ubiquitous industry demand and presence. They distinguished themselves via top tier bookings with the best photographers, stylists and clients earning next-level visibility, making them 2018’s foremost star.”
In the last couple of years, the 19-year-old South Sudanese–Australian model has made one helluva name for herself, walking for the likes of Chanel, Versace, Saint Laurent, Moschino and landing multiple Vogue covers.
Just recently, Adut was also named the Model of the Year by the Australian Fashion Laureate, so there’s that too.
Basically, this bright young thing’s been kicking some serious goals – the kind some models only achieve over the course of their entire career – and she’s not even 20-years-old.
If Adut’s not already on your radar, you better get her on there, stat.
The panel of industry professionals also named a runner-up for the title, appointing British tomboy Adwoa Aboah as a close second.
In addition to the industry selected award, there was also a seperate reader’s choice award for the World’s Top Model. As predicted, the Hadid sisters took out first and second place. And none for Kendall Jenner.
