Accused FB Killer Stalled By Macca’s Drive-Thru Staff Withholding Fries

The alleged Facebook Live killer, Steve W. Stephens, who took his own life after a police chase, may have been taken down by a group of McDonald’s workers in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Stephens was accused of shooting 74-year-old stranger Robert Godwin Sr. in Cleveland, Ohio and posting video of the shooting on Facebook. He died of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

However, just before the pursuit and shooting, he stopped at the McDonald’s restaurant and ordered a 20-pack of nuggets and large fries. One of the employees reportedly recognised Stephens from news reports of the nationwide manhunt, and the police were contacted. Staff attempted to delay him by deliberately holding up his order of fries, but it didn’t work.
According to Henry Sayers, the restaurant’s manager, Stephens didn’t wait around for the fries. “But he just took his nuggets and said, ‘I have to go,’ and he drove off,” Sayers told the New York Times. He reports that Stephens didn’t speed away from the restaurant, but drove at normal speed.
Police tracked the vehicle while he was being pursued. When he was eventually pulled over, he took his life as police approached the side of the vehicle. Police are still investigating the circumstances.
