The Most-Googled Fashion Trend Of 2018 Is Like A Madonna-Hazed Dream

80s fashion

2018 has played host to a whole range of new trends. From far-shun bike shorts to those fugly dad sneakers, it’s been one helluva wild ride. But, in addition to the brand spankin’ new looks, there’s also been a palpable penchant for those throwback vibes.

Now there’s also tangible proof. Google have just released their ‘Year In Search’ stats, including the most-searched trends of 2018 and boy oh boy are their findings surprising.

It turns out the most-searched trend plays into the fashion world’s preoccupation with all things nostalgic.

Whenever someone throws around the term ‘nostalgia’, our minds automatically think of the Spice Girls, Clueless and Paris Hilton mainstays like Juicy Velour trackies and crop tops.

But, despite what you might think, neither the ’90s or the ’00s ranked highest on Google’s throwback searches for 2018.

Move over Cher Horowitz, because the top ranking decade is now the 1980s, where the muses are Madonna, Bowie and Janet Jackson. Yesssss.

As for the fashion, we’re talking fuck off massive shoulder pads, blingy costume jewellery earrings, boss binch pant suits, mum jeans and schmick pearms:

Yup, this is our new style muse and we don’t care what you say.

After the 80s, the next biggest search trend was ‘grunge style’, because we’re bad to the bone tyvm.

Of course, the ’90s and ’00s weren’t far behind, coming in third and fourth place, respectively. So they’re still up there, but they’ve been dethroned as the coolest decade.
