The 8 Items You Need In Your Wardrobe This Summer If You’re Lazy As Hell

It’s the only thing about a change of season that can suck – having to head to the shops and buy new stuff, coz you can’t seem to work out how to re-work your things from the year before. Most of us end up making terrible decisions, and winding up with loads of $$ spent on items we wear for a week before they get relegated to the back of our cupboard, never to be seen again.

Do we actually have to fork out for an entirely new wardrobe, season after season? Erm, nope. In fact – you can buy (or re-purpose) these ten pieces – they’re the ultimate slashies of the fashion world (sorry, Fabio), meaning you’ll be getting ready each morning in under 5 minutes.

A PAIR OF MOM JEANS

Look, Mom jeans aren’t going anywhere fast and trust me when I tell you these might look very “trend that will die soon”, but they’re actually incredibly versatile. The real win here is that you can make tops that are well past their wardrobe use-by date work once again. This is mainly coz the high waist of this 80s denim style means everything gets tucked in. Think shirts that have an awkward length – now that you’re tucking them in, that’s not an issue. Ditto for anything you have that’s cropped… even old one piece swimsuits can work as bodysuits with this denim style.

A WHITE LINEN SHIRT

Get one that’s oversized – an oversized linen shirt works equally as well as a beach coverup as it does for work or over denim on the weekend. I say linen because crisp white shirts tend to skew veeery “business casual” whereas linen is breezy, will keep you cool and looks a bit more relaxed.

A MULTI-USE JEWELLERY ITEM

You don’t need to buy 40 pieces of jewellery, but it is a good idea to have something you can throw on an otherwise plain outfit to spice it up. Something that works in a bunch of different ways is heaven for anyone who can’t commit to a single style – for example, you can connect multiple strands from the Swarovski Remix Collection to switch up from a necklace, choker, bracelet… the possibilities are kinda endless.

SUEDE SLIDES

Ah, slides. They hit peak riiiight at the end of spring last year, and it looks like they’ll be around for another warm season yet. This time around, try a pair in a jewel tone, like ruby red. If you’re a minimalist at heart, they’ll break up your otherwise monochrome outfits and work equally as well during the working week as they do on the club d-floor at 3am. Alternatively, tan suede slides work with everything in a more chill, summery way than your usual black version.

A VINTAGE LEATHER BELT

Why vintage? Well, the worn-in feel of soft leather is wayyyy more chill than stiff, fresh leather. Plus, vintage versions will often have more fun, unique buckles. Basically, a leather belt (I’d go brown, but black works too) can break up the usual jeans-and-tee lewk you’re working this summer. But they’re also fab for wrapping ’round shirt dresses and long-line tees worn as minis for days you go from beach to bar.

A SILK CAMI

Speaking of silk, a spaghetti-strap camisole in the material will see you sail through Sunday sesh’s and summery Tinder dates. It’s the easiest way to look a little more polished but still well within that chill-girl-casual arena. Tuck one into your Mom jeans, why don’t ya?

A LACY BRA

Bear with me here – even if you love the most basic of underwear, having one bra you would happily show off is a fashion must. These are perfect for popping under sheer tops or allowing to peek out underneath a shirt. You’ll find you get a lot of wear out of it, simply for those times when your underwear might become part of your outerwear.

A SIMPLE LEATHER TOTE

If you’ve wanted to upgrade your handbag for a while, but dread forking out $$ for something that just doesn’t work in general life – the tote is here to save you. Loads of brands make simple, black leather tote bags so you can find something that fits with your budget – but hoo boy, are they useful. Headed to your partner’s place for the night? It fits all your gear. Doing sport at lunch? Throw your trainers in. You’ll never need a second bag, and that means no banging into people on public transport, right?
