YIEW: Prince Harry Announces Sydney Will Host His Invictus Games In 2018

Get absolutely stoked, Sydney: you’re set to host one of the planet’s most worthwhile sporting events.

Prince Harry himself just revealed Sydney has been picked to stage the 2018 Invictus Games, meaning Australia will host the planet’s only “adaptive sporting” event for injured, wounded, and ill military personnel.
In a video message, Prince Harry said ‘Straya’s most recognisable city was picked for its iconic features, military pedigree, and generally sports-mad vibe. Look, we’re having a hard time disagreeing:

Athletes from a full seventeen nations are pencilled in to compete in October ’18, when the Games will make use of Olympic Park and even Sydney Harbour itself.

The announcement comes after Orlando’s turn hosting in May, and it makes another massive statement about the Games’ growing international influence.

Just as well, too. In a statement, Invictus Games’ Sydney Chair Lieutenant General Peter Leahy described the legitimate benefit of the event to active duty personnel and veterans by saying it turns “adversity into opportunity using sport as a vehicle for their rehabilitation.”

It could hardly get better than that. Actually, here’s hoping Prince Harry enlists his grandma to call out our Prime Minister when the Games roll around.
