WWE Star Daniel Bryan Announces His (Maybe) Retirement Due To Injuries

First and foremost, the “(maybe)” in the headline is probably wishful thinking, more than anything.

We all know that the WWE has a deep love affair with utilising social media to further their on-air storylines. And the last time something like this happened, Mark Henry ambled down the ring in a salmon pink suit jacket, only to stuff John Cena through the ring because that’s what he do.
The maybe is there because maybe this particular writer doesn’t want to believe it to be true. Maybe he hopes it’s all a giant work, and that it actually marks the start of one last great in-ring run instead.
But, alas. The signs all point to that not being the case.
Much beloved professional wrestler and easily one of the greatest in-ring performers of the modern era, Daniel Bryan has announced his abrupt retirement due to on-going physical health issues.

There had been speculation swirling surrounding Bryan – he was spotted at an airport heading to Seattle, where today’s edition of WWE Raw is set to take place – and he has long been the subject of concern over injuries suffered in the ring.
Bryan has spent the better part of the last 2 years out of action due to a myriad of reasons – firstly, shoulder and arm issues that forced him to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Championship that he won at WrestleMania 30, and then prolonged concussion-related issues that the WWE’s medical team continually refused to clear him of.
Bryan’s career is perhaps unparalleled, and he rates as by far-and-away the most popular WWE superstar of recent times. Originally trained by industry legends Shawn Michaels and William Regal, Bryan plied his early trade in the US and Japan, becoming one of the founding stalwarts of Ring Of Honor wrestling and enjoying several successful tours of New Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling NOAH.
Bryan joined the WWE in 2009 and – save for a brief stint back in the independent circuit in 2010 after being let go in controversial circumstances – spent the remainder of his career accumulating success there.
He captured world championships on four occasions – including his epic single-night performance at WrestleMania 30 – and won over crowds with his simple, yet insanely catchy, “YES!” chant.
Daniel Bryan is scheduled to address audiences on today’s WWE Raw from Seattle – his home town – which kicks off at about midday Australian time.
Bloody hell, every finger is crossed that this is all part of the story. For the love of all that is holy, just let him amble out in a salmon pink suit jacket.
Say it ain’t so, Daniel.
