Watch This English Rugby Brawl Go From ‘Regular Biff’ To ‘Straight Up Assault’

Talk about going from 0-100 in record time.

We all love a good bit of old-fashioned biff on the sporting field. I’m not entirely sure what it says about us as a culture where the occasional jumperpunch is considered entirely acceptable. But nevertheless, I think everyone will agree with me when I say that this kind of stuff is simply not on.
In scenes more reminiscent of a drunken nightclub riot, the English Super League Grand Final was severely marred by a shocking, disgusting act of brutality that has absolutely no place in any sporting arena ever.
A mere two minutes into the game between Wigan and St Helens, Wigan player Ben Flower blatantly struck opposing player Lance Hohaia. As Hohaia lay on the ground dazed, Flower then reared back and struck the now-defenceless player in the head again.
The fowl act sparked a wild melee between the two fierce rivals, and resulted in a Red Card for Flower – the first player to be issued a red card in a Super League Grand Final.
Not only has the act attracted the ire of the league, with Flower expected to be handed down an eight game suspension, but it’s also caught the attention of the Police, who are considering an investigation, with potential assault charges looming.
St Helens did eventually overrun Wigan, triumphing 14 – 6. But the match now will seemingly be remembered for all of the wrong reasons.
There’s biff, and then there’s disgusting crap that should never be seen in sport. Unfortunately, this is the latter.
