WATCH: Jonah Lomu’s Former Teammates Farewell Him With Emotional Haka

Former All Blacks great and one of the most iconic and beloved figures in world rugby, Jonah Lomu was farewelled today in a moving public memorial at New Zealand’s spiritual home of the sport, Auckland’s Eden Park.

Lomu’s former teammates and a number of New Zealand rugby luminaries greeted the arrival of Lomu’s coffin with a stirring rendition of the traditional haka, as those in attendance observed the display with revered silence.
Lomu passed away unexpectedly on November 18th at the age of just 40. He had been battling the chronic kidney condition nephrotic syndrome for many years, but appeared in good health prior to his sudden death.

Oh man. 🙁

The memorial, attended today by thousands, was one of two public services in New Zealand for the great man – revered with almost God-like status in his native land. A private, final memorial for family will take place tomorrow.
