The punt, which came in at a little bit over 73 metres, set up the Wolverine’s first touchdown of the game. The kick also drew some high praise on its own, with one ESPN pundit even calling it the “best punt I’ve ever seen”.
Of course, what the football gods can giveth, they can taketh away. Set up like a Greek tragedy, the Michigan State Spartans rallied. Two points up, ten seconds to go, and this happens:
O’Neill and the Wolverines will aim to restore their winning record on Sunday, 1st November against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Whether they can restore their fans’ broken hearts is another matter entirely.
