V8 Driver Red Flagged For “Pussywagon” Slur Against Female Bathurst Team

V8 Supercars driver David Reynolds has been fined $25,000 by the sport’s governing body after dropping a low-brow sexist slur on all-female Bathurst 1000 tag-team Renee Gracie and Simona De Silvestro
When asked about the first all-female team to compete in the iconic race since 1998, Reynolds promptly asked if the interviewer was referring to “the pussywagon.”
Understandably, V8 Supercars Chief Exec James Warburton was quick to crack the whip, saying “Reynolds’ comments were disgraceful and completely unacceptable in our sport… Women are an integral part of our sport, whether they are fans, drivers or team members.” Reynolds later apologised to the women, who are driving a car under Reynold’s own Prodive Racing Australia banner.
The comments put Australian motorsports in sharp relief to codes like the AFL, which are actively expanding the participation of women in the sport.
FYI, Gracie and De Silvestro are set to tackle The Mountain after cracking through three practice sessions, in which they chipped two seconds off their best times.
The race starts on Sunday. No word on whether screenings of Mad Max: Fury Road will become mandatory in the pit lanes beforehand as an all-Aussie demonstration of female drivers being boss.
