Tim Cahill’s Finally Home After Signing 3-Year Deal With Melbourne City

Looks like it’s a big day for sportz news all round.

Socceroos star & arguably Australia‘s best soccer player Tim Cahill, who really is very good at kicking a ball around a field, is comin’ home and moving to the A-League.

He’s signed a three-year deal with Melbourne City that’ll tie him to the club till the end of the 2018-19 season, playing for the first two years, then moving into the coaching ranks for the third. The club wouldn’t say how much the deal is worth, but probably ‘a lot’.

Cahill obvi said he was excited as hell to be joining Melbourne City.

“There is real ambition and purpose here, qualities that are immensely important to me,” he said in a statement. “I’m here to contribute as much as I can to both the club and, where possible, to the further development of football here in Australia.”

He said his immediate focus is getting to know his new teammates and their pre-season preparations, which is good, because he starts on Monday.

Meanwhile FFA CEO David Gallop – whose relationship with Cahill can best be described as ‘shaky’ up until this point – said that Cahill’s passion for the game and his record with the Socceroos is going to make him “a tremendous asset” to Melbourne City.

Gallop further buried the hatchet by adding that Cahill “is a fantastic role model for young Australians who aspire to play at the top level.” Bless.
