Tecmo Bowl: The ‘King Of Kong’ For Sports Nerds

2007’s King Of Kong was a brilliant exposition on the the world of competitive arcade gaming. Detailing the journeys of the heros and the villains from a devoted band of gamers striving to claim the King Kong world record, the film was a critically lauded celebration of nerdom.

Conforming to a similar format, the NFL produced Tecmo Bowl interviews players and Tecmo enthusiasts as nearly 170 hardcore gamers gather in Madison for the Tecmo Super Bowl. Predating FIFA, Madden, or Gretzky Hockey, Tecmo is the godfather of sports video games, and while the doco is pretty light on villains, it’s jam-packed with loveable sports boffins throwing around their share of cringeworthy lol’s. If you got a spare half-hour, I guarantee it’s better than whats on the TV right now.
