The mighty Socceroos have effortlessly cruised through a 2018 World Cup qualifier on home soil in Perth against Bangladesh overnight, rising to a sweeping 5-0 victory.
Australia coasted through their meeting with the 173rd-ranked Bangladesh, as Mathew Leckie netted the Socceroos’ first goal of the night in the sixth minute.
Australia now definitively leads the 2018 World Cup qualifying Group B with 6 points, following their 2-1 win over Kyrgyzstan in June.
The Socceroos will face 158th-ranked Tajikistan next week; their final World Cup Qualifier, deciding Australia’s place among 31 of the Cup’s 32 teams, will take place in March 2016. Socceroos midfielder Massimo Luongo said the home-turf match added to Australia’s success, saying, “The crowd was right behind us and I think we put on a good show for them.”
