Sharks Captain Paul Gallen Was Carted Off To Hospital After Their Huge Win

Cronulla‘s historic premiership on Sunday was a massive, massive moment for a team who had never landed one before, but not everyone along for the journey could celebrate hard at the end of it.

Captain Paul Gallen found himself in hospital on an IV drip less than 12 hours after the Sharks won, having been floored by a viral infection. Fans knew it – Gallen tapped out after 25 minutes in the grand final against Melbourne Storm at ANZ Stadium, before returning visibly battered at 47 minutes.
That said, he still managed to punch out 164 metres – higher than his season average – so big ups to him. “At the end I thought I was going to pass out,’’ Gallen said after the match. “It’s just an amazing feeling. We wanted it more than they did.’’

He was admitted to hospital at 6:30am on Monday, but was back at ’em for the Sharks fan day at Southern Cross Group Stadium. It’s believed his illness was caused by medication he was prescribed for a back problem.
It’s pretty safe to assume that the rest of the boys in the Sharks had a bloody wild one. The scenes around Cronulla after the victory were pretty insane, and might even rival the Redfern revelries after the Rabbitohs took home the premiership in 2014.
