Serena Williams’ New French Open Outfit Has A Message For The Catsuit Haters

Another year, another French Open, another reminder to never fuck with Serena Williams.

The tennis legend has unveiled her custom Nike x Off-White look for the 2019 tournament, one year after the French Tennis Federation controversially deemed her one-piece ‘catsuit’ illegal.

Famously, she returned to the US Open court in a purple tutu. Why the hell not.

Williams, 37, took to her opening match against Russia’s Vitalia Diatchenko sporting a black-and-white ensemble, designed by Off-White founder and Louis Vuitton creative director Virgil Abloh.

The look was a pared back version of an outfit she shared on Instagram yesterday. A closer look at the fabric reveals the words “champion” and “mother” in French, a not-so-subtle message to everyone who still wants to stand in her way.

Williams came from behind to win the match 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 and will progress to the next round at Roland Garros, where she will face the winner of Kurumi Nara and Dalila Jakupovic.

So far, nobody at the French Open has criticised Williams’ choice of outfit. God help anyone who does.
