Secret $10m Plan: Jarryd Hayne & The 49ers May Come To Sydney For A Game

In what has been proposed as the biggest sporting event to hit Sydney since the 2000 Olympic Games, a secret plan has been revealed to bring Jarryd Hayne and the San Francisco 49ers to the city for a game at ANZ Stadium.
Overnight, it was revealed that NSW Premier Mike Baird is in the midst of negotiating the deal with John York, the chairman of the 49ers. The funds would come from ticket sales, as well as the state’s newly-flush major events budget.
Earlier this year, NSW added $125 million to its major events budget to secure more big-ticket events for the state and boost visitor numbers, and a 49ers game would be a coup for the Baird government.
At this stage, it looks as if the Hayne plane will be touching down in August, for a pre-season trial game, and chairman York seems enthusiastic about the prospect, saying:
“It’s something we’d definitely consider with the NFL. We’re fully aware of the interest Jarryd Hayne has created in Sydney and Australia. I’ve met fans from Australia at every game this year. The support is incredible.”
