Roy & HG To Go For Glory With Another Grand Final ‘Festival Of The Boot’

Real talk, everything about Grand Final weekend is amazing, except for the standard broadcast commentary.

At times annoyingly over-the-top, at others completely insufferable, the Channel Nine and Channel Seven broadcast teams have made habit of wrecking many a NRL and AFL GF by chasing cliche, giving jobs to boring-ass ex-players, and letting boofhead egotists with half-baked talking abilities think they’re King Shite.
Fortunately for us all, there are alternatives. And the best alternative of them all is officially saddling up again for 2016.
The incomparable wit and wisdom of “Rampaging” Roy Slaven and HG Nelson are confirmed for another instalment of the almighty ‘Festival of the Boot‘ this coming weekend, as confirmed by the ABC earlier this morning.

The glorious national event, delivered in two parts, will see the pair provide game-day coverage and commentary of the AFL Grand Final on Saturday from 2pm, before backing it up for the NRL Grand Final on Sunday from 6:30pm.

Expect wild anecdotes from Roy’s time as an elite multi-code footballer, outrageous nicknames (praying for a reference to Dickhead Brogan, just quietly), and sporting banter of the finest quality.
Still, the TV broadcasters are absolutely gonna do that thing where they delay the live telecast by a few seconds to avoid people easily syncing up radio commentary to TV. But there’s ways around that if you’re clever enough.
It’s the cup! It’s the Festival of the Boot! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
The AFL Grand Final will see the Sydney Swans take on the (mighty) Western Bulldogs, while the NRL decider will see Cronulla take on Melbourne.
Roy & HG can be heard across the weekend on ABC NewsRadio, either on the ole’ fashioned radio, streaming online, or via the ABC Radio app.
Happy punting!
