Richmond Players Went All Out For Mad Monday Despite 36 Hours On The Tins

Fair to say that even though the Richmond Tigers players haven’t really stopped celebrating since Saturday’s mammoth AFL Grand Final win over Greater Western Sydney, their commitment doesn’t show any signs of wavering anytime soon. Case in point, despite canning on for the better part of 36 hours over the weekend, players still fronted up to the club today in full, glorious costume for their Mad Monday, and their efforts are arguably enough to leave even Geelong in the dust.

Though the Cats are rather famous for the effort that goes into their Mad Monday (or Wacky Wednesday, whatever the day may be) celebrations, the Tigs have quietly gone bang in their pursuit of Mad Monday Premiership glory.

Gathering at Punt Road Oval today before heading off down the road, the highlights are plenty and came in a rush, as the entire group quickly exited Tigerland en masse.

The highlights in that lot? Trent Cotchin as Ash BartySydney Stack as a very low-rent Rick SanchezJosh Caddy paying homage to clearly his favourite person in AFL umpire “Razor” Ray ChamberlainShaun Grigg apparently giving Daniel Rioli‘s landlord/father-in-law Brendan Fevola a bit of a wind-up, and Toby Nankervis choosing to dress as, uh, Toby Nankervis.

But as far as your three-two-ones are concerned, it’s hard to go past a very shady Tom Lynch for one vote, who took Alex Rance‘s infamous “I don’t necessarily believe that we should be upsetting the apple cart” quote about Richmond pursuing the then-Gold Coast Suns captain last year and rocked up today with an actual apple cart.

Two votes easily goes to Dan Butler, who committed to his bit so hard that he bleached the ever-loving christ out of his scone in pulling off this deeply good Eminem.

But best on ground in a walk was defender David Astbury, who apparently went one step beyond that by shaving half his fucken head to go full-“John Howard trying to play cricket and looking like an idiot doing it.”

Unfuckenreal. Insane areas. The scenes of it all. You simply gotta love it.
