The Richies Have Gathered En Masse For A Marvellous Day 2 Of The SCG Test

Folks, it’s a marvellous day at the Sydney Cricket Ground for Day 2 of the Fifth Ashes Test between Australia and England, and as we’ve seen around the country so far on the tour, the blessed Richies have come out in force for the second day.

Paying tribute to the late, great Richie Benaud, hundreds of fans descended on Australian cricketing grounds sporting silver wigs, a selection of cream/bone/white/off-white/ivory/beige suit jackets and inflatable Channel Nine mics. But nowhere is that gathering of greats larger than at at the SCG.

Today’s congregation of Richies piled into the historic Moore Park stadium some 650-strong, all immaculately dressed in their broadcast finest.

Though the morning started off a little slow, with some choice banter being flung across the ground from the rivalling Barmy Army on social media.

Soon enough, however, Bay 27 was full-to-bursting with Richies, chanting and singing along as the day’s play wore on and, most importantly of all, paying loving homage to the late, great man himself.

Absolute scenes at the SCG. Hell, even Anthony “Albo” Albanese got squarely around the throng of Benauds.

An absolutely marvellous day to raise a cold one at 2:22pm for our dear departed Richie.

Super stuff, that.

Richard Benaud. Sorely missed, each and every summer.

Hail the great man.
