Reds Surpass The Broncos As Brisbane’s No.1 Team

The QLD Reds have won the the battle of Brisbane! For the first time since, like forever, the Reds’ average crowd attendance has surpassed that of the Broncos with their 25 year reign as Brisbane’s most loved team over. Once the domain of GPS old boys who’d use the occasion to debate the pros and cons of the new Range Rover or argue whose wife could drink the most gin before 10am, the Reds home game has been embraced by the wider public thanks to their improved on field performances and marketability of stars such as Will Genia and Quade Cooper.

It’s yet to be determined how fickle the Reds’ fan base will be. Crowd figures received an 83% spike since 2009 but will these new fans stick around if performances begin to wane? With most of the Reds stars back on deck for 2013, don’t expect the Broncos to be holding their breath. With the ‘friendly’ rivalry construed as a little less friendly now they’re number two, don’t be surprised to see a big off season marketing push.
