Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo has been gifted with one of the greatest honours a human being can possibly receive: getting an airport named after him.
Aeroporto da Madeira has been renamed Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, and Ronaldo himself showed up for the unveiling ceremony. What should have been basically a high point of the footballer’s life was somewhat tainted by the fact that his official bronze bust actually looks more like a demented Macklemore.
I feel utterly confident in saying that this bust does not look like Ronaldo. In fact, it looks like concept art for The Joker in Suicide Squad 2. It looks like a police composite sketch of every bloke you’ve ever met in a European party hostel. Regrettably, there are at least a hundred international footballers it looks more like than Ronaldo.
Congratulations to Cristiano for putting on a brave face in front of a bronze bust clearly constructed by someone who had never actually seen Ronaldo, but had his features described to them in general by an alien with zero knowledge of human anatomy.
Understandably, Twitter tore it to shreds:
