‘Our’ Iggy Tops US Charts, Equals A Beatles Record

Sure, she might’ve moved to Miami when she was 16, and she might’ve been living there ever since. But she’s successful now, which means she’s still “our” Iggy Azalea, right?

The hip-hop wunderkind and all badass has done the unthinkable and scored herself a certified, bona fide, genuine smash hit in the US, with her single “Fancy” now peaking at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The single comes off her new album The New Classic which peaked at number 3 on the album charts.
But in the immortal words of Tim Shaw from Demtel, “But wait! There’s more!” As the featured artist Ariana Grande‘s “Problem,” Iggy has managed to etch her name into the record books, and alongside some extremely rare company. With Problem ascending to number 2 behind Fancy, Iggy Azalea becomes only the second artist in history to have both the number 1 and 2 song on the Billboard charts simultaneously with their debut entries. The only other artist to achieve that rank? A little rag-tag group of mop-tops from Liverpool called The Beatles.
She also becomes the third female ever to hold 1 and 2 at the same time, following Mariah Carey in 2005, and Ashanti in 2002. The stats don’t end there, either. Iggy’s chart-topping effort makes her just the fourth solo female rapper to ever attain grab that goal, and only the second as lead artist on the track. The other efforts being Lauryn Hill in 1999 with “Doo Wop (That Thing)“, Lil’ Kim performing alongside Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Pink with “Lady Marmalade” in 2001, and Shawnna who backed up Ludacris with “Stand Up” in 2003.
So now it’s probably about as confirmed as it’ll ever get. Iggy is definitely the real deal. Onya, Iggs!
