For whatever reason, aeons ago when State of Origin began, some dumbasses decided that in the interest of ‘fairness‘, some of the games would be played in NSW – a state that barely even appreciates Origin for what it is: a chance for Queensland to demonstrate their clear superiority.
Unfortunately, this means that instead of getting to experience the majesty of an Origin game II in the stadium formerly known as Lang Park, we’re forced to watch it on the cheap flatscreen we picked up on special at JB Hi-Fi or at a pub full of the worst people alive.
If (like it does to me) this completely breaks your heart, I urge you to understand that you can still watch the game tonight at Suncorp. Or, at least, across the road from Suncorp. Close enough.
Brisbane‘s newest froth factory, Newstead Brewing in Milton, is nestled gently in the shadows of both Suncorp Stadium and the XXXX Brewery, and just so happens to have a big white wall adjacent (the wall of the QRL building, if I’m not mistaken).
That wall, it turns out, is perfect for projecting a State of Origin game onto it. You can drown your sorrows about not being able to watch the game in person while eating a ridiculous selection of meats, drinking a ridiculous selection of beers, and watching the game projected onto a wall that is much, much bigger than your TV.
I can’t imagine that any bartenders or security staff would condone you doing this, but we highly recommend pairing the experience with our rigorously designed Origin II drinking game.
