The NRL Reportedly Ordered A KidPix-Level Logo Revamp That’ll Cost $250,000

The NRL has reportedly gone ahead and altered its logo – and we’re only using the most liberal definition of ‘altered’, here – all for the low, low expected price of $250,000.

The Courier-Mail reports the league took stock of its logo, which has been in place since 2012, and decided the brand image could do with less colour, less shading, and most notably, one less constellation.

Instead of bearing gold chevrons and Southern Cross, the purported ‘new’ logo appears to be feature a simple green and white design.

Citing sources with knowledge of the redesign, the Courier-Mail states those minor tweaks are expected to cost the league between $200,000 and $250,000 once new signs, uniforms, banners, and advertisements are taken into account.

In total fairness, it does make sense in some ways: having a more simplistic logo could theoretically make it more immediately recognisable. Still, the apparent redesign is mighty bloody close to the initial version.

At time of writing, the ‘old’ logo remains on the league’s website and social media accounts.

It’s hardly the kind of thing that will distract punters from the fact that a team of professional NRL players were recently fined out the nose for getting naked in the middle of a Sydney bar, but you know, points for trying.
