People do some pretty weird things for love. Modern technology has only made them weirder. Back in the day you used to engage in some good, old fashioned, wholesome stalking to try and be nearer to that unattainable someone. Nowadays you simply create an entire alternate personality, cast out some bait, sit back and wait for the dick pics to come flooding in. NBA star Paul George is the latest rube to fall victim to the we’re-still-not-quite-sure-why-it’s-called-that phenomena knows as Catfishing.
The Indiana Pacers swingman has been in something of a form funk as of late, and it’s not just on the court where he’s been shooting poorly. Using a photo of a “thick” Caucasian woman, a gay man known simply as “Paul” has somehow been managing to rake in the racy photos of celebrities and athletes, which he then reposts on his (not even remotely safe for work) Tumblr page.
Though his motivations are unclear, we’re all kind of at a loss as to how he manages to maintain a success rate that’s higher than one person, let alone a swathe of people who should know better than to randomly send out the money shots to anyone they haven’t actually met. Whatever “Paul’s” mystery formula is, it’s got us all reacting with a mix of confusion and quiet awe.
George’s Pacers currently lead the clusterfuck that is the NBA’s Eastern Conference, and with a hotly contested playoffs looming the team can scarcely afford distractions such as this. Elite sportspeople are notoriously egotistical, and any damage to overall confidence in any aspect of their lives has the potential to have disastrous knock-on effects on the playing field. If left unchecked, George’s slump in form could grow even worse, leading to a golden opportunity for the Pacers to be completely squandered.
But, y’know. It’s going to be alright. He’ll probably bounce right back.
