Early into his first tilt as Prime Minister, Turnbull had the honour of presiding over one of the biggest sporting weekends in Australian history – with both the AFL and NRL Grand Finals, as well as the Wallabies enormous clash with England in the Rugby World Cup. Being the betting type, apparently, Turners lodged his tips with the rest of the nation.
His weekend of predictions didn’t start out super well, with the PM (foolishly, as it turns out) picking the West Coast Eagles by 8 points in the AFL Grand Final, which ended up with Hawthorn wiping the floor with a hapless West Coast, securing their third straight Premiership to the tune of 46 points.
But his form took a serious turn for the better, picking the Wallabies to get up over England but “It will require a huge effort,” which is exactly how that shit went down.
And then, even more remarkably, Turnbull gave the nod to the North Queensland Cowboys by a single, solitary point.
