Is MMA A Hollywood Conveyor Belt?

Hollywood tough guys have never been so, well, tough! Sure Arnold Schwarzenegger could lift heavy stuff, Sylvester Stallone dominated a punching bag, and Bruce Willis can wield a sub-machine gun with the same deftness as a witty one-liner but there is a new brand of action movie stars who could literally kill you with their bare hands.

Brazilian UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva looks set to join the ranks of fellow MMA/action movie stars Randy Couture, Rampage Jackson, Cung Le, and Gina Carano, after agreeing to star alongside Steven Segal in an upcoming police drama. In the big surprise to anyone else who thought Segal spent his spare time rubbing himself in butter and telling himself he was the law, Segal and Silva have a long history together with Silva attributing much of his MMA success to his sometime trainer. Segal is a legit badass. Who knew?

Randy Couture

Well played by Randy Couture. Audiences will generally overlook your shortcomings on screen when they are focusing on how much Rob Schneider is sucking.

Coutures has has over 15 acting credits two is name include Expendable 1 & 2. And this is randy at his day job.

Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson

Rampage’s big acting break came in the the re-hash of the popular 80’s TV show The A-Team. Playing B. A. Baracus, most critics pitied the fool. He had none of Mr T’s attitude or sass but you wouldn’t say that to his face.

A former UFC heavy weight champ, Jackson has refuted claims that acting was getting in the way of his fighting. “I turn down movies all the time to fight. This is my day job fighting. This is what pays my bills and puts my kids through college and stuff.”

Cung Le

Staring in plenty of strait-to-DVD titles, Cung Le’s biggest release to date is as villain Bronze Lion in RZA’s wire-work-heavy The Man With The Iron Fist.

Cung Le had kicking the shit out of people.

Gina Carano

Steven Soderbergh can go a little left field when picking his leading ladies but where the experiment with adult film star Sasha Grey was panned, his work with fitness model and UFC fighter Gina Garano showed there was a method to the madness this time around. Soderbergh surrounded his inexperienced star with acting heavy weights which freed her up to do what she does best, cracking heads!

Previously voted “Hottest Woman In America” by Big Biz Magazine, proves she is more than a pretty face i.e. she’ll destroy yours if you get in her way!

Anderson Silva
Untested as an actor, Silva certainly has the physical skill and presence of his fellow fighters that have crossed over into film.
