Hundreds Of Stumpy Lil’ Angels Meet For Melbourne’s Annual Dachshund Race

Just when we thought 2016 couldn’t be a better year for sport, Melbourne’s second annual sausage dog race has scurried into our lives and LOOK AT ALL THE LIL’ CYLINDRICAL DOGGOS:

Once again, scores of stub-legged pups and their owners have descended on the banks of the Yarra River to compete for ultimate dachshund glory.
By “compete for ultimate glory”, we of course mean “waddle over a metres-long stretch”, but the goal of this Oktoberfest celebration isn’t really to find out which tubular dog is the most rapid.

Instead, the real purpose of the teckelrennen (cutest German word ever, btw) is to laugh at their beautiful stumpy legs, admire their elongated bellies, and to raise funds for the v. good charity Dachshund Rescue Australia in the process.

Judging by footage captured at this year’s event, donating to help these precious nuggets is a no-brainer:
Even then, the goodness didn’t end there. There was even a costume contest for the more dapper dogs, and the photos are liable to induce dangerous levels of joy:

That last one… It’s a Bunnings sausage. Unreal. Just unreal.
