It’s believed the explosive devices had been placed in a bush along the road. It’s not currently known who is responsible for the explosions.
The team’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said “the whole team is in a state of shock, you can’t get pictures like that out of your head.”
Borussia Dortmund was travelling to its home ground to face AS Monaco in a Champions League quarter-final at the time of the incident.
The match was postponed until tomorrow, and fans at Signal Iduna Park were asked to stay put until staff could confirm it was safe to leave.
Away fans chanted their support for the home team after news reached the stadium.
