Golf legend Tiger Woods, who was arrested yesterday on suspicion of driving under the influence, was found by his arresting officer asleep at the wheel, according to cops.
Police in Jupiter, Florida say in their arrest report that they found Woods’ 2015 Mercedes-Benz off the side of the road with its “brake lights illuminated and right turn signal flashing”. According to the report, he had to be awakened, was slurring his words, and did not know where he was.
Woods was cooperative, and blew 0.00 on a breathalyser test. He claimed yesterday that while he had not been drinking, he had an adverse reaction to some prescription meds he was taking. Woods has had a number of back surgeries, and takes prescription pain medication as a result.
In a statement, Woods said that he did not realise that the meds “had affected [him] so strongly.”
“I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions,” Woods said. “I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again.”
His first court appearance is on July 5.
