Felled Football Player Hit With Explosive

In more football madness, an injured player has been hit with an explosive device while receiving medical treatment in a match between Anorthosis and Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus. The incident soon quelled protests about the validity of the felled players injury with the explosion sending the surrounding support staff and players to the ground clutching at their ears. Thankfully the device, most likely a firecracker, had more of a shock and awe effect rather than doing any actual damage.

While the actions of the fan are reprehensible and extremely dangerous, it is a little bit amusing (knowing no one was injured of coarse) watching the fallout. The unlucky medical official closest to the blast gamely resumes his duties as players and officials cower in the fetal position. The umpire is having none of it, with with a distinct “F@#k this. I’m going to stand all the way over there!” look on his face as he checks his watch and wanders back towards halfway.

It’s another incident in a rowdy and downright dangerous start to the football season with an Iranian player nearly losing his hand in a similar incident a few weeks ago. Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland was also assaulted by a pitch invader over the weekend. Chill out football fans!
